Job Overview
Our client, a high-end boutique hospitality property in Nairobi, is seeking to hire a diligent and detail-oriented Accountant to support the day-to-day financial operations of the hotel.
The role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing daily revenue and expenditure transactions, supporting accounts payable and receivable, performing reconciliations, monitoring cash and stock, and assisting with financial reporting and statutory compliance. The successful candidate should have practical accounting experience within a hotel or hospitality environment and be comfortable working in a fast-paced operational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, General Ledger entries, and financial reconciliations.
- Reconcile daily hotel revenue from accommodation, food & beverage, wellness, events, and other revenue streams against the hotel operating and accounting systems.
- Manage cash, bank, petty cash, supplier, and debtor reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
- Support stock and cost control, including stock counts, variance analysis, and monitoring of food, beverage, and operational inventory.
- Prepare monthly and periodic financial reports, management schedules, and support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Ensure compliance with tax, statutory, accounting, and internal control requirements, and support internal and external audits.
- Monitor and strengthen financial controls around revenue, cash, procurement, inventory, and expenditure.
- Work closely with Hotel Operations, Procurement, Stores, Food & Beverage, and Administration to ensure accurate financial information and effective cost management.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, financial controls, and cost efficiency within the hotel.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (K) qualification is required.
- 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the hospitality/hotel industry.
- Practical experience in hotel accounting, revenue reconciliation, stock control, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Experience with accounting software such as Sage is preferred.
- Experience with hotel operating systems such as Mango or similar hotel management systems is an added advantage.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Good understanding of Kenyan tax and statutory requirements.
- Experience with reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal financial controls.
